Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome

Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome is a pathology characterized by the absence or decrease of testosterone, the major male sex hormone.

This disorder is increasingly prevalent among males in developed countries affecting approximately 10% of the male population. Some men, as they grow older, exhibit some of the symptoms associated with androgen deficiency. It is what some call Andropause or ADAM Syndrome (Androgen Deficiency Aging Male).

Symptoms:

It is important to detect early symptoms of this pathology in time to start treating it as soon as possible. The symptomatology that it produces can be common to other types of diseases, which is why it is essential to go to the right specialist.

The most common symptoms of testosterone deficiency syndrome are:

  • Decreased sexual desire or lack of libido
  • Fatigue both to perform physical activities such as at work and professional motivation
  • Decreased muscle mass
  • Increased waist circumference
  • Depression, irritability, sleep problems
  • Humour changes

Diagnosis:

At Cenyt Hospital we perform a complete and personalized diagnosis of each patient. Our aim is to be able to start treatment as soon as possible in order to improve the patient’s quality of life and avoid possible future trouble such as osteoporosis or other complications.

The following diagnostic tests are among the ones carried out by our specialists in sexual medicine:

  • Blood test
  • Semen analysis
  • Hormonal tests
  • Genetic studies
  • Testicular biopsy

Treatments:

The absence or shortage of hormone production by the testicles can be treated through a hormone replacement therapy in the form of injections, patches, gels… Always under your urologist-andrologist’s supervision and control.

If you notice a decrease in sexual desire accompanied by any of the symptoms mentioned above, consult with your specialist. The importance of an early diagnosis of testosterone deficiency syndrome is that it will save you future complications. And remember: never self-administer testosterone without your doctor’s control.

Schedule an appointment with our andrology specialists and win better Health, Self-esteem and Quality of Life.
