Children’s Health Program

The Paediatrics Unit has the following Children’s Health Program:

1.Early Visit (after five days of age or discharge):

This is specifically about helping the family to adapt to the birth of a new member. The following activities are carried out:

  • Perinatal and medical records of the new-born baby and its mother.
  • Explanation of the care initially provided to the child and recommendations of what to feed the child.
  • Blood sample taken for screening.
  • Monitoring cases of jaundice in keeping with the current parameters of the Spanish Society of Neonatology and the American Academy of Paediatrics.

2. Systematic Screening of Hearing and Visual defects during examinations:

Early screening for congenital or acquired anomalies of the sensory organs.

3. Comprehensive and Sistematic Information about Vaccinations:

At each visit, families will be informed of the minimum vaccination timetable established by the Inter-Territorial Committee on Healthcare and its possible extensions by the administration of another series of routine vaccines implemented in western neighbouring countries and included in the Timetable of the Spanish Association of Paediatrics:

  • Combined vaccines (Hexavalent).
  • Vaccine against chickenpox.
  • Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine 13-valent.
  • Vaccine against human papilloma virus.
  • Vaccine against rotavirus.
  • Vaccination against flu.
  • Vaccination against hepatitis A.

ASSESSMENT OUTLINE OF THE PAEDIATRICS CONSULTATION:

1st VISIT: When the child is five days old:

  • Metabolic tests.
  • Anthropometry.
  • Paediatric examination.

2nd VISIT: (When the child is one month old):

  • Anthropometry (weight and height).
  • Paediatric examination.

3rd VISIT: (When the child is two months old):

  • Anthropometry.
  • Paediatric examination.
  • Clinical neurosensory screening.
  • Vaccination advice.

4th VISIT: (When the child is four months old):

  • Anthropometry
  • Paediatric examination.
  • Clinical neurosensory screening.
  • Vaccination advice.

5th VISIT: (When the child is six months old):

  • Anthropometry.
  • Paediatric examination.
  • Clinical neurosensory screening: Strabismus assessment.

6th VISIT: (When the child is fiveteen months old):

  • Anthropometry.
  • Paediatric examination.
  • Neurosensory screening.
  • Vaccination advice.
  • Blood and urine tests.

7th VISIT: (When the child is three years old):

  • Anthropometry.
  • Paediatric examination.
  • Neurosensory screening.
  • Tympanometry.
  • Vaccination advice.

8th VISIT: (When the child is six years old):

  • Anthropometry
  • Paediatric examination
  • Sensorial screening:
    • Audiometry
    • Optotype test (visual acuity).
  • Vaccination advice.
